Morgan Rogers is selected for the England national team for the first time
On the eve of the upcoming national league matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers received his first call up for the England national team. At the same time, Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Jalad Branthwaite (Everton), Tino Livermonto (Newcastle), and James Trafford (Burnley) were also called up to the national team, all on the eve of interim coach Lee Casley's second to last game facing injury troubles.
Due to the withdrawal of several England national team players from this week's national league due to injuries, talents such as Rogers were able to obtain this valuable national team opportunity. Although he has accumulated rich experience in various youth teams in England before, this is his first promotion to the senior national team. Rogers has performed well under Emery's Villa team this season, becoming an indispensable member of the team and participating in all 15 Premier League and Champions League matches.
This 22-year-old forward started his career at West Bromwich Albion youth academy, transferred to Manchester City in 2019, and went on loan with Lincoln City, Bournemouth, and Blackpool before finally joining Middlesbrough permanently in July 2023. However, just six months later, he transferred to Villa during the winter transfer window in January 2024.
The England national team currently ranks second in the national league group with 9 points. They will face Greece on November 14th and then host the Republic of Ireland at home on November 17th. It is worth noting that this game is also Casley's second to last national league match under his command before officially stepping down as interim head coach on January 1, 2025. Afterwards, Thomas Tuchel will take over as the head coach of the England national team.
