Tottenham Hotspur to stage another blitzkrieg after 2018?
In the 16th round of the Premier League that ended early this morning, Tottenham defeated Southampton 5-0. In the 36th second of the game, when Southampton's defense was not ready, Maddison opened the scoring for Tottenham and scored the first goal in a lightning speed.
According to statistics, this is Tottenham's fastest goal since Eriksen's lightning goal in the first 11 seconds against Manchester United in January 2018.
After the game, Southampton's head coach also announced his resignation.
Russell Martin's contract with Southampton was originally until the end of June 2026, but due to poor performance, Southampton had to make the decision to fire him. The news was announced after Southampton lost 0-5 to Tottenham at home. After 16 rounds, Southampton only got 5 points, 9 points behind the safety zone. Southampton said in a statement: "We can confirm that we have made the difficult decision to part ways with our head coach Russell Martin. "Going into the start of the season we all knew the challenges we would face this year as we re-adapted to top-flight life in the best and most competitive league in the world. However, the reality of the situation we face is clear. The board are supportive of Russell and his team and have been open and transparent about our expectations. We all recognise the urgency of the need to improve results. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank Russell and his team for their hard work and dedication to the club on and off the pitch over the past 18 months. Everyone associated with Southampton Football Club will always cherish great memories of last season, particularly the play-off final victory in May. "Current U21 head coach Simon Rask will take on the interim role until a permanent replacement is announced."
